It is the 15th anniversary of Acura Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ and we are looking forward to continued decades of Acura handling performance. SH-AWD® technology has been the leader in AWD and continues to raise the bar higher for other automakers. Currently, it’s featured on five of six Acura vehicles in the lineup. The system comes in both mechanical form and electric (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD) as well. In fact, Acura is set to pass over the one-millionth mark with SH-AWD®-equipped vehicle sales this year. Don’t you want to be a part of that celebration?
It was 2004 when SH-AWD® first debuted with the 2005 Acura RL sedan. This was the world’s first all-wheel-drive torque-vectoring system. The SH-AWD® technology dynamically distributes torque to enhance handling and increase performance around corners. Since then, it’s been included in some of the most popular Acura models.
In fact, it’s now found on the 2019 Acura RDX. This is the most powerful generation of SH-AWD® ever offered. It features 40 percent more torque capacity in the rear axle, 30 percent quicker torque transfer between the left and right rear wheels and rapid torque transfer from front to back.
Acura has also expanded the realm of SH-AWD® with the Sport Hybrid version. It started in the 2014 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid and was followed with the Acura NSX. This utilizes electric motor torque, which is instantly available to increase efficiency and performance.
